Sure, there are lots of resources but the terrain is horrible. Almost straight up and down for the most part and full of cliffs. And access to water is difficult to say the least. And everything is far away. in the rocky desert, coal is far away and hard to access (and i always rush coal) The forest is a good area because rescources are clustered, and the dune desert is good for building and rescources are good. You can do anything on the map, but as far as starting areas go -- Grass Fields really is the absolute worst of them all. Quartz and sulfur are around the corner in the northern forest canyon area and there's a bauxite node on top of the mountain at the starting location.
