WebLED Basics Unlike incandescent lamps, LEDs are not inherently white light sources. Instead, LEDs emit nearly monochromatic light, making them highly efficient for colored light applications such as traffic lights and exit signs. If you reverse bias it, the electric field gets bigger, the depletion layer and drift current bigger and the difussion current smaller. So there will not flow a current, or only a small current.
